What is a Community Resiliency Plan?

The Community Resiliency Plan (CRP) is a comprehensive community and science-based strategy to bring Tigard to carbon neutrality by 2035, reduce our effect on natural resources and the environment, and help us adapt. It centers people, especially historically excluded communities most vulnerable to climate change.

With help from Sustainability Solutions Group (SSG)—a climate consultant with over 15 years of experience, we'll set targets, actions, and a process for monitoring progress.

Why are we doing this now?Children running on a trail

City Council declared climate action a priority in April 2021. From wildfire smoke to extreme heat, we have all experienced the serious consequences of climate change. The science is undeniable. If we don’t act now, we can expect worse and more frequent disruptions to our lives. We are taking climate change head-on to leave a promising future for the next generations of Tigardians.

Centering Equity and Environmental Justice

Historically excluded communities experience negative health and economic impacts of climate change disproportionately as a result of inequitable public policy. Therefore, we are centering equity and environmental justice by involving community and developing a Racial Equity Toolkit to evaluate decisions to reduce impacts and unintended consequences on historically excluded communities. We will be working with APANO and community members to create lasting and meaningful outcomes.

Climate Action Speaker Series

The City of Tigard is working towards its Council-adopted goal of pursuing carbon neutrality by 2035. Low carbon recommendations in multiple sectors, including energy, buildings, mobility, and land use, have been identified. In anticipation, Tigard is looking to engage members of the community in education, information, and conversation around the importance and urgency of climate action.
