Community Support
We are led by our strategic vision — Tigard: an equitable community that is walkable, healthy, and accessible for everyone. Our vision highlights where we want to go and what we want to be while our priorities point to how we are going to achieve our vision.
We are working to achieve this vision by:
- Ensuring just and fair inclusion where all can participate, prosper, and reach their full potential.
- Implementing an actionable, person-centric, and regional response to houselessness.
- Supporting the community through a coordinated COVID-19 response.
Our COVID-19 response has centered around funding provided through Tigard AID, Tigard CARES, and Tigard RAFT. In September 2021, the City Council allocated $250,000 for a third round of funding for the Resident Aid Funding of Tigard (RAFT) program.
On this Talking Tigard podcast episode, Tigard RAFT recipients Second Home of Oregon, SupaFresh Youth Farm, and HomePlate Youth Services share how the city has supported their organizations during COVID-19.
To date, the Tigard AID Program has provided more than $45,000 in financial assistance for city fees and charges to 233 utility customers. Our goal is to ensure every member of the community continues to have the basic services they need. We have expanded the program to include tenants of multi-family and commercial complexes within our service area.
Tigard CARES has administered $3.5 million to local businesses. Maggie Reilly, Craft3 and Nita Shah, Micro Enterprise Services of Oregon discuss working with the city staff to create Tigard Commercial Assistance and Relief for Economic Stability (Tigard CARES). Grants were awarded for assistance with rent, payroll, recurring costs and future inventory with a strong focus on resources for businesses that most need help accessing federal and state programs.
We are not done. We will continue to look for ways to provide much-needed support for community members.
